FAQs about Zvago Long Lake Co-op

Q:  What does a “62+ active cooperative lifestyle community” mean?

A:  A 62+ active lifestyle community is designed for adults age 62 and older who want a social, maintenance-free living environment. Residents live independently in their own homes while enjoying amenities, activities, and shared spaces that support an engaged, active lifestyle.

Q:  How is a senior cooperative different from an apartment and a condo?

A:  In a cooperative, residents own shares in the cooperative corporation rather than owning their unit outright like a condo. Unlike apartments, residents are members and partial owners of the entire community. This structure allows residents to participate in decision-making and governance while enjoying maintenance-free living and shared amenities.

Q:  Do residents own their homes in a cooperative?

A:  Residents own a share of the cooperative, which gives them the exclusive right to live in a specific home or unit. While the cooperative owns the building and property as a whole, each member holds equity in the community and may sell their share when they move.

Q:  Is Zvago Long Lake independent or assisted living?

A:  ZLL is designed for independent living. Meal service, housekeeping, and medical care are not provided, as these services are typically associated with assisted living communities.

Q: Is there some flexibility on the age requirement of 62?

A:  Our partnership with HUD requires that one person in the household be a minimum of 62 years of age. For couples, the other person could be younger than age 62.

Q:  Can my friends and family visit and stay overnight?

A:   Yes. Residents are welcome to have family members and guests visit. Zvago also offers an on-site guest suite that can be reserved for visiting friends or family for a nominal nightly fee.

Q: Are pets allowed?

A:  Yes. Owners may have one pet. All pets must be well-behaved and up to date on vaccinations.

Q:  Is Zvago Long Lake smoke-free?

A:  Yes. No smoking or vaping is allowed in individual residences, in common areas, or on the grounds of the cooperative.
